Major transportation improvements in the I-64 corridor between Chesterfield Parkway West and Long Road are moving forward, representing an important step toward strengthening regional connectivity, supporting economic development, and expanding access to outdoor recreation in Chesterfield Valley.
The City of Chesterfield is advancing plans for two related infrastructure projects that will reshape mobility in the area while improving access for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Chesterfield I-64 corridor improvements: Two Key Projects to Improve Regional Access

The first project would upgrade the existing Long Road and I-64 partial access interchange to a full access interchange, significantly improving the ability for travelers to enter and exit the interstate from both directions.
The second project would extend North Outer 40 Road east of Chesterfield Valley, connecting it to Chesterfield Parkway via Swingley Ridge Road. This connection would

improve east-west mobility across the corridor and provide an important access point from the west into Chesterfield Valley’s growing employment and commercial district.
Together, these improvements are expected to enhance daily traffic flow, strengthen regional access, and create new pathways for continued investment in the valley.
Multi-Phase Planning Already Underway
In June 2024, the Chesterfield City Council authorized a professional services contract with Lochmueller Group, Inc. to lead this initial phase.
Phase 2 – Final Design and Property Acquisition Contingent on funding, this phase will include final engineering design, acquisition of required property and easements, and preparation of construction documents.
Phase 3 – Construction. The final phase will include project construction and construction administration. Final schedules will be developed as funding sources are secured.
Significant Investment with Strong Public-Private Support
If approved, the North Outer 40 / Swingley Ridge Road connection is estimated at $15.7 million. Matching funds are expected to include contributions from Bayer, RGA, the Chesterfield Transportation Development District (TDD), and portions of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds associated with the new Downtown Chesterfield development.
The I-64 at Long Road interchange upgrade carries an estimated cost of $48.6 million. Funding for this project would include $10 million in cost-share funds from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) along with remaining TDD funds from the City of Chesterfield.
Supporting Economic Growth and Quality of Life
Beyond improving traffic flow, these projects represent an important investment in the long-term economic vitality of the corridor.
Enhanced access from the west into Chesterfield Valley will support future commercial development and improve connectivity to one of the region’s most significant employment centers.
The plans also include new accommodations for pedestrians and cyclists, helping connect local pathways to the Monarch-Chesterfield Levee Trail, a long-standing priority for residents seeking better recreational and active-transportation access.
A Project with Regional Impact
For the Progress 64 West community, improvements along this corridor highlight how strategic infrastructure investment can support economic competitiveness while improving everyday mobility.
Better access, stronger connectivity, and expanded trail linkages all contribute to a transportation system that supports both regional growth and quality of life across West St. Louis County.
